Written papers and case studies

Papers and case studies should ideally meet the guidelines below.

Longer papers (particularly those of an academic nature) will be considered where it is difficult to cover the subject material within the word limit. For examples browse archived papers from last past conferences.

All written work (unless specified otherwise by the author) will also be considered for publication in Snapshots, iNet's journal of educational innovation.

Guidelines

• Papers should be between 500 and 800 words. 
• All text should be sent as a word document or as a plain text email.
• Subheadings and bullet points make articles written for websites a lot more readable.
• They should contain only brief and relevant information about your school and a short explanation of why the innovation was considered necessary
• They should summarise how the innovation worked out in practice (challenges, successes and lessons learnt for the future).
• Was anything (curriculum, structure, timetabling, staffing, policy or practice) deliberately abandoned so that the innovation could ‘take root and flourish’?
• Please provide an analysis of the impact of the innovation on student outcomes and/or organisational learning (quantitive and/or qualitative)
• Student, teacher and parent comments about the innovation are especially valued
• If possible, please include a few (no more than 3) photos of the work in progress and/or a photo of your school. If these photos contain images of students please ensure you obtain parental permission for their use (Photos must be attached seperately to emails and not embedded in a word document)
• Authors are encouraged to record an audio version of their paper and to attach this as an mp3 file

Audio

Audio recordings must meet the following technical specifications:

• MP3 (MPEG-2, Layer 3)
• Mono
• 32kbps
• Sample rate: 22.05kHz

Video

These should be sent in either WMV or AVI format, or alternatively you could upload your video to a video hosting site such as youtube and send us the link.

Please do not send videos featuring students unless you received parental permission when making the video.

Presentations

Please do not embed video in the presentation. There are a few free online tools that enable you to combine videos and presentations into one video, which can then be linked to from/embedded in the conference website.

Deadlines

Make sure you're not sending in your work too late. The deadlines are as follows:

• Learning spaces for 3 to 19 year olds - Saturday 4 October 2008
• Student leadership - Monday 3 November 2008
