Jim Spinks is director of 'All across the line', Consultants in education in Australia.

Prior to this appointment in 2000, Jim had extensive experience within the Education Department of Tasmania as a school principal, and also as state-wide superintendent of self-managing schools. In these positions he became influential in both the design and implementation of self-management.

Over the past 7 years Jim has undertaken extensive consultancies throughout Australia as well as in the UK, Canada, Thailand and Indonesia. His current work includes:

• Designing new funding models for school systems based on research into how highly effective schools deploy their resources to optimise student learning.
• Development of an 'abilities index' model for students with additional needs, placing the emphasis on the child's capacities to learn and develop, rather than on their incapacities.
• The International Confederation of Principals and iNet have commissioned work to help develop strategies to enable member countries to develop their own student focused approaches to school resourcing.

Publications

Jim has written a number of pubilcations, often co-written with Professor Brian Caldwell.
