Our Rethinking Pastoral events
explored and uncovered how traditional pastoral systems can be
reworked to bring about personalised learning through a range of
support methods and structures.
They offered participants the
opportunity to work with colleagues on improving current
structures and practices. Participants were able to draw on:
- Examples from leading practitioners,
who showcased some of the different approaches schools are
developing to remodel their pastoral procedures
- National and international speakers
on meeting the Every Child Matters agenda through student
support for learning
- Case study seminars to explore how
schools are personalising learning through alternative pastoral
models
- Practical strategies for
restructuring pastoral systems to provide deep support for students
through such areas as mentoring and coaching and advice and
guidance
The events were designed to enable school leaders to debate
and drive forward changes to traditional pastoral structures,
within the context of Every Child Matters and the more
recent Gilbert Review, so that personalising learning is
achieved for their students.
One delegate had this to say about Rethinking Pastoral:
‘I feel empowered to lead the next level of change in my
school. The entire day was very interesting, thought provoking,
full of challenge and inspirational.’
