iNet Wales: Practical
strategies for promoting motivational learning cultures in the
classroom
A day for cover supervisors and higher level teaching assistants
in schools in North Wales.
Tuesday 29 June 2010, The Quay Hotel, Deganwy
Workforce reform and changes in cover arrangements have meant
that effective cover supervisors and higher level teaching
assistants (HLTAs) are an essential feature of 21st century
schooling.
As requested by the iNet North Wales Steering Group, this
workshop is an opportunity for colleagues in these crucial roles to
step back from day to day tasks and return to school having
developed and explored a set of skills and materials to promote
motivational learning cultures in their classrooms.
Full of practical advice the workshop aims to provide a range of
strategies to effectively lead learning in the classroom. Through
facilitated activities participants will:
- Examine some of the key features of personalising
learning.
- Receive advice and guidance on classroom management and
behaviour for learning.
- Understand some of the approaches other schools have taken to
motivate students and engage learners to sustain enthusiasm
throughout the lesson.
- Discuss the role of the learner and the ways in which students
can actively co-construct their learning.
- Explore how to develop leadership in your own classroom
- Reflect on your next steps.
Throughout the day you will explore strategies that have worked
in the classroom to promote motivational learning cultures and
share learning, ideas and concepts with other participants to build
a regional support network for the future.
The workshop may also be of interest to those new to teaching or
those working with individual students as teaching/classroom
assistants.
