It is clear that in the 21st century workforce redevelopment is occurring not merely for its own sake, but out of a genuine desire to support more effective learning and raise achievement. Teachers need more time to concentrate on what they do best - teaching.
Other adults within a school can undoubtedly play complementary roles. This will often require restructured school systems as well as retraining. It seems likely that the teaching profession will follow the model of the world of medicine; over the next decade the roles of non-teaching adults will be developed and teachers will concentrate on the work that uses their highly skilled professional abilities.
